Who are We?

OAS is an organization of ophthalmic surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists. We recently surveyed OAS Members and this is what we learned:

28% have been members for more than ten years
21% more than five years
38% from three to five years
25% have joined since 2007

75% practice in an eye specialty surgery center and others work in multi-specialty or university-affiliated ASCs

More than half our members have focused on ophthalmic cases for the past ten years.

Survey respondents in the US have performed more than 500,000 peribulbar or retrobulbar needle blocks, 3,000+ sub-Tenon’s blocks and nearly 200,000 topical anesthesia procedures.

Our US survey respondents work at facilities where more than 1.5 Million cataract surgeries have been performed, nearly 200,000 vitreo-retinal procedures, more than 100,000 corneal procedures and 30,000 congenital defects.

OAS Members represent 37 states and Puerto Rico, Canada, UK, India, Egypt, Nepal, Netherlands, Turkey and Italy.

OAS is an organization of experts whose goal is to provide the highest quality care for patients undergoing eye surgery.
